What would my Lord care for you if not for your supplication?
“What would my Lord care for you if not for your supplication?”
Say - O Messenger, to the disbelievers who persist in their disbelief: My Lord will never care about you because of some benefit that He gets from your obedience. If it were not because He calls you for your benefit He would not have cared about you.
The plain meaning, from Al-Mukhtasar fi at-Tafsir
قُلْ مَا يَعْبَؤُا۟ بِكُمْ رَبِّى لَوْلَا دُعَآؤُكُمْ ۖ فَقَدْ كَذَّبْتُمْ فَسَوْفَ يَكُونُ لِزَامًۢا
Say, "What would my Lord care for you if not for your supplication?" For you disbelievers have denied, so it i.e., your denial is going to be adherent.
What does Quran 25:77 mean?
The line is easy to misread on its own. It is addressed to those who have rejected the message outright, and its force is a question: what claim would you have on My Lord’s attention if not for your calling on Him? The commentators take from it a point about worth — Allah gains nothing from anyone’s obedience, so the value of a human being here is measured by his turning to Allah, not by anything he brings.
