Moses said to them: Remember when your Lord clearly announced to you: If you are grateful to Allah for the above-mentioned favours that He has blessed you with, then He will give you more from His favour and grace.
The plain meaning, from Al-Mukhtasar fi at-Tafsir
وَإِذْ تَأَذَّنَ رَبُّكُمْ لَئِن شَكَرْتُمْ لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ ۖ وَلَئِن كَفَرْتُمْ إِنَّ عَذَابِى لَشَدِيدٌ
And remember when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you in favor; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.'"
What does Quran 14:7 mean?
Musa is speaking to the Children of Israel, right after reminding them how Allah delivered them from Pharaoh. The word behind “announced” is stronger than a promise — it is a proclamation Allah binds Himself to. And the halves of the verse are deliberately uneven: the increase for gratitude is stated outright, while the other side is left at “My punishment is severe,” named but not aimed.
