Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes.
“Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes.”
Those who say in their prayer to their Lord: Our Lord, give us from our spouses and offspring those who will be the coolness of our eyes due to their piety and steadfastness on the truth. Make us leaders in truth who are emulated by those who are mindful of You.
The plain meaning, from Al-Mukhtasar fi at-Tafsir
And those who say, "Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us a leader i.e., example for the righteous."
What does Quran 25:74 mean?
This is the last of a long list. Surah al-Furqan spends its closing passage describing “the servants of the Most Merciful” — how they walk, how they answer the ignorant, how they spend, how they pass by falsehood without stopping to look — and the description ends with this prayer. What it asks for is not that the family be impressive but that they be a rest for the eyes, which the commentators explain as their uprightness and their steadiness on the truth.
