“Those who remember Allah standing, sitting, and lying on their sides, and reflect upon the creation of the heavens and the earth.”
Those who remember Allah in all conditions – standing, sitting and lying on their sides – and reflect on the creation of the heavens and the earth, saying that their Lord did not originate this wonderful creation without a reason, and is far above that, and ask Him to protect them from the punishment of the fire of Hell, by enabling them to do good and protecting them from doing wrong – they say:
The plain meaning, from Al-Mukhtasar fi at-Tafsir
Who remember Allah while standing or sitting or lying on their sides and give thought to the creation of the heavens and the earth, saying, "Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are You above such a thing; then protect us from the punishment of the Fire.
What does Quran 3:191 mean?
The verse before this names who is being described: people of understanding, who see signs in the alternation of night and day. This one tells you what they do with them — remember Allah in every posture there is, and think about what has been made. The reflection is not idle: it arrives at a conclusion, which the next verse gives — “our Lord, You did not create this without purpose.”
