Sufficient for me is Allah; there is no deity except Him. Upon Him I have relied.
“Sufficient for me is Allah; there is no deity except Him. Upon Him I have relied.”
If they reject you O Messenger, not believing in what you come with, then say: 'Allah is sufficient for me, there is nothing worthy of worship except Him. I rely on Him alone, and He, Glory be to Him, is the Lord of the Great Throne.'
The plain meaning, from Al-Mukhtasar fi at-Tafsir
فَإِن تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَقُلْ حَسْبِىَ ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ ۖ وَهُوَ رَبُّ ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
But if they turn away, O Muḥammad, say, "Sufficient for me is Allah; there is no deity except Him. On Him I have relied, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne."
What does Quran 9:129 mean?
This is the last verse of Surah at-Tawbah, and the one before it describes the Prophet (peace be upon him): a messenger from among yourselves, to whom your suffering is grievous, deeply concerned for you. Then comes the instruction for when they turn away anyway. What he is given to say contains no complaint about them at all — only what remains true when they have gone.
