The plain meaning, from Al-Mukhtasar fi at-Tafsir
رَبَّنَا ٱغْفِرْ لِى وَلِوَٰلِدَىَّ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلْحِسَابُ
Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established."
What does Quran 14:41 mean?
Ibrahim is praying at the end of his life, and the request widens as it goes: himself, then his parents, then all the believers, on the day the reckoning is set up. The commentators attach a note to the middle part — he said this before it became clear to him that his father was an enemy of Allah, and once that was clear he stopped. Even the greatest supplication, they mean, is bound by what is true.
