O reassured soul, return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing.
“O reassured soul, return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing.”
After Allah mentioned the requital of the disbelievers, He mentions the requital of the believers. He says: As for the soul of the believer, it will be told at the time of death and on the Day of Judgement: “O the soul contented with faith and good deeds!”
The plain meaning, from Al-Mukhtasar fi at-Tafsir
يَٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفْسُ ٱلْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ ٱرْجِعِىٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرْضِيَّةً
To the righteous it will be said, "O reassured soul, Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing to Him,
What does Quran 89:27-28 mean?
Surah al-Fajr has just described the man who realises too late and says, “Would that I had sent something ahead for my life.” Then the address turns, and these are the words spoken to the other soul. The commentators say they are said twice — once at death and once on the Day of Judgement. The pleasure in the verse runs both ways: pleased, and pleasing to Him.
