“O Allah, I seek refuge in You from disbelief and poverty, and from the punishment of the grave.”

This wording is recorded by Abu Dawud and an-Nasa’i, from a supplication the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to say morning and evening. The pairing of disbelief with poverty is what the commentators pause on — not because poverty is shameful, but because both are conditions that can pull a person away from his religion, and the refuge sought is from that.
