If kings and the sons of kings knew the joy and bliss we are in, they would fight us for it with their swords.

“If kings and the sons of kings knew the joy and bliss we are in, they would fight us for it with their swords.”

The explanation

What does Ibrahim ibn Adham mean?

Ibrahim ibn Adham (d. c. 161 AH / 778 CE) was born into wealth in Balkh and left it for a life of poverty and devotion. Abu Nu‘aym records the moment he said this: he had waded into a river up to his knees, drunk with bismillah and praised Allah, then come out and stretched his legs on the bank. The joy he meant cost nothing and could not be bought.
