If Allah should aid you, no one can overcome you.
“If Allah should aid you, no one can overcome you.”
If Allah supports you with His help and aid, then no one can overcome you, even if everyone in the earth came together against you; yet if He does not help or protect you, then no one can help you after Him. Help is in His Hands alone. So let those who have faith depend on Him and on no one else.
The plain meaning, from Al-Mukhtasar fi at-Tafsir
إِن يَنصُرْكُمُ ٱللَّهُ فَلَا غَالِبَ لَكُمْ ۖ وَإِن يَخْذُلْكُمْ فَمَن ذَا ٱلَّذِى يَنصُرُكُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ ۗ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ
If Allah should aid you, no one can overcome you; but if He should forsake you, who is there that can aid you after Him? And upon Allah let the believers rely.
What does Quran 3:160 mean?
This comes in the aftermath of Uhud, where the believers had in fact been overcome. The verse is not denying that; it is explaining it. It has a second half that the quotation leaves out — and if He forsakes you, who is there to help you after Him? Both halves point the same way, and the verse ends by telling the believers to rely on Allah rather than on the count of their own numbers.
