Those who believed in Allah and acted according to His laws have indeed succeeded by achieving whatever they sought, and gaining salvation from whatever they feared.
The plain meaning, from Al-Mukhtasar fi at-Tafsir
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ فِى صَلَاتِهِمْ خَٰشِعُونَ
Certainly will the believers have succeeded: They who are during their prayer humbly intent
What does Quran 23:1-2 mean?
These are the opening words of Surah al-Mu’minun, and they begin a list — turning away from idle talk, giving zakah, guarding chastity, keeping trusts — of which prayer is the first item and, at the end of the list, the last. What is required of the prayer is not its performance but its khushu‘, which the commentators describe plainly: the limbs still, and the heart not somewhere else.
