Allah - there is no deity except Him. To Him belong the best names.
“Allah - there is no deity except Him. To Him belong the best names.”
Allah, there is no being deserving of worship besides Him. To Him alone belong the perfect Names that have reached the most complete level of perfection and excellence.
The plain meaning, from Al-Mukhtasar fi at-Tafsir
ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ لَهُ ٱلْأَسْمَآءُ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ
Allah - there is no deity except Him. To Him belong the best names.
What does Quran 20:8 mean?
Surah Taha opens by telling the Prophet (peace be upon him) that the Qur’an was not sent down to cause him distress, then moves through creation and the Throne, and arrives here. The commentators explain “the best names” as names that have reached the furthest degree of perfection — so the statement is not that His names are pleasant, but that nothing in them falls short.
