“Whoever keeps knocking at the door will soon have it opened.”

Ibn ‘Abd Rabbih lists it among “the proverbs of the Arabs” on patience in al-‘Iqd al-Farid, and Ibn Rajab applies it to supplication in Jami‘ al-‘Ulum wa’l-Hikam: as long as a servant keeps asking and does not give up hope, he is close to being answered. The Sunnah says the same: a supplication is answered as long as the one making it does not grow impatient and say, “I prayed and was not answered.”
