Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "He who does not thank people in fact does not thank Allah."

The explanation

What does Sunan al-Tirmidhi 1954 mean?

Narrated by Abu Hurayrah, recorded by Abu Dawud, al-Tirmidhi and Ahmad. The reasoning the commentators give is about habit rather than rules: a person who does not thank the people in front of him is not going to thank the One he cannot see. Gratitude is treated as a single faculty, practised on whoever is nearest.
