“What can my enemies do to me? My paradise is in my heart; wherever I go, it goes with me and never leaves me.”

Ibn al-Qayyim records these words from his teacher Ibn Taymiyyah in al-Wabil as-Sayyib, and the full passage explains what prompted them. Ibn Taymiyyah spent years imprisoned in Damascus and Cairo for his positions, and his answer was that his enemies had no move left: if they imprison me it is seclusion, if they exile me it is travel, if they kill me it is martyrdom.
