“Truly in the heart there is a void that cannot be removed except with the company of Allah.”

The passage is Ibn al-Qayyim’s, preserved in ‘Uddat as-Sabirin wa Dhakhirat ash-Shakirin, and the full run is a list of ailments each with one cure: in the heart there is a disorder that only turning to Allah can settle, a loneliness only intimacy with Him in solitude removes, a sadness only knowing Him dispels, an anxiety only gathering on Him stills. The line quoted here is one item from that list.
