To be granted well-being and be grateful is dearer to me than to be tested and be patient.
Mutarrif ibn Abdullah
Mutarrif ibn Abdullah

“To be granted well-being and be grateful is dearer to me than to be tested and be patient.”

The explanation

What does Mutarrif ibn Abdullah mean?

Another saying of Mutarrif ibn ‘Abdullah, recorded by Abu Nu‘aym and quoted by Ibn al-Qayyim in his chapter on gratitude in ‘Uddat as-Sabirin. It is the counterweight to ‘Umar’s two camels: a believer does not go looking for trials to prove his patience. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said that after certainty of faith, no one is given anything better than well-being.
