The son of Adam will not move on the Day of Resurrection until he is asked about his life and how he spent it, and his knowledge and what he did with it.

“The son of Adam will not move on the Day of Resurrection until he is asked about his life and how he spent it, and his knowledge and what he did with it.”

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said that none among people will pass the place of reckoning, either to Paradise or Hellfire, on the Day of Judgment until he is asked about four things, which are: First: His life; how did he let it perish and how did he spend it?

Abu Barzah al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Man's feet will not move from their place on the Day of Judgment until he is asked about his life, in what he let it perish; about his knowledge, what he did with it; about his money, from where he earned it and on what he spent it on; and about his body, and how he wore it out."

The explanation

What does Sunan al-Tirmidhi 2417 mean?

Narrated by Abu Barzah al-Aslami and recorded by al-Tirmidhi. The full hadith lists four questions, not two: his life and how he spent it, his knowledge and what he did with it, his wealth — where he earned it and where he spent it — and his body, and how he wore it out. Knowledge is the only item asked about twice over, since it is covered by both its own question and the one about a life.
