Success is that Allah does not leave you to yourself, and being forsaken is that Allah leaves you to yourself.
Ibn al-Qayyim (al-Wabil al-Sayyib)
“Success is that Allah does not leave you to yourself, and being forsaken is that Allah leaves you to yourself.”
What does Ibn al-Qayyim (al-Wabil al-Sayyib) mean?
Ibn al-Qayyim gives this, in the opening pages of al-Wabil as-Sayyib, as the agreed view of all who know Allah, and draws the practical conclusion at once: whoever Allah wants good for, He opens for him the door of humility and of constantly turning back to Him. It is what the Prophet (peace be upon him) asked for in the supplication “do not leave me to myself even for the blink of an eye.”
