“My knowledge travels with me wherever I go; my heart is its vessel, not a chest locked away.”

From the Diwan attributed to al-Shafi‘i, and the couplet turns on a contrast between two ways of owning knowledge. The rest of it says as much outright: if I am at home my knowledge is with me, and if I am in the market it is there too — the point being that a locked chest can be stolen, and a heart cannot.
