“May Allah have mercy on the one who shows me my faults.”

‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said this as head of a state that stretched from Egypt to Persia — a ruler asking to be corrected. Al-Darimi quotes it in his Sunan, and al-Ghazali tells in the Ihya’ how ‘Umar pressed Salman to name his faults until Salman told him what he had heard: that ‘Umar had two kinds of food on his table, and two garments, one for the day and one for the night.
