What does Imam al-Shafii (Diwan) mean?
The opening line of the Diwan attributed to al-Shafi‘i (150–204 AH / 767–820 CE). The poem goes on: do not be shaken by what the nights bring, for nothing in this world lasts; be steadfast in the face of terrors, with generosity and loyalty as your nature; and if your faults among people are many, cover them with generosity.
