The explanation

What does Quran 20:82 mean?

The words come in the passage about the Children of Israel and the calf — after the rescue from Pharaoh, after the manna and the quail, after they had gone wrong in the most direct way possible. This is what is said to them. The commentators note the four things listed in order: repents, believes, does righteousness, and then keeps to guidance — the last being what turns a moment into a direction.
