If patience and gratitude were two camels, I would not care which of them I rode.
Umar ibn al-Khattab

“If patience and gratitude were two camels, I would not care which of them I rode.”

The explanation

What does Umar ibn al-Khattab mean?

‘Umar ibn al-Khattab (d. 23 AH / 644 CE) meant that hardship and ease had become alike to him, because each has its own road to the same reward: patience for the one, gratitude for the other. Ibn Abi al-Dunya records it in his book on patience. It says in one sentence what the Prophet (peace be upon him) said of the believer — that all of his affairs are good for him.
