O my sons, go and find out about Joseph and his brother and despair not of relief from Allah. Indeed, no one despairs of relief from Allah except the disbelieving people."

The explanation

What does Quran 12:87 mean?

Ya‘qub (peace be upon him) says this after losing a second son, having already lost Yusuf years before and gone blind from grief. He is sending the others out to search again. The commentators dwell on the reason he gives — despair of relief from Allah belongs to those who do not believe — which places hope not among the temperaments but among the things faith requires.
