Some drowsiness of heedlessness and some sleep of desire are unavoidable — but be a light sleeper.
Ibn al-Qayyim (al-Fawaid)
Ibn al-Qayyim (al-Fawaid)

“Some drowsiness of heedlessness and some sleep of desire are unavoidable — but be a light sleeper.”

The explanation

What does Ibn al-Qayyim (al-Fawaid) mean?

Ibn al-Qayyim finishes the image in the next breath: “for the watchmen of the town are calling out that dawn is near.” Just before it he writes: “Buy yourself back — the market is open and the price is at hand.” He is not asking for someone who never slips, only for someone who wakes easily.
