May Allah have mercy on a man who is not deceived by how many people he sees around him. Son of Adam, you will die alone, enter the grave alone, be raised alone, and be judged alone.
al-Hasan al-Basri
al-Hasan al-Basri

“May Allah have mercy on a man who is not deceived by how many people he sees around him. Son of Adam, you will die alone, enter the grave alone, be raised alone, and be judged alone.”

The explanation

What does al-Hasan al-Basri mean?

Abu Nu‘aym records this with its chain through Ahmad ibn Hanbal, and in the original it ends with one more line: “Son of Adam, you are the one meant, and it is you who is being addressed.” The first sentence reads today as a warning about crowds of every kind: what everyone around you is doing will not be standing beside you on that Day.
